TN RTE admission 2026: Parents in Tamil Nadu looking to secure Class LKG and I admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2026–27 academic year can start planning, as key dates approach. Applications will open on April 20 and close on May 18, giving families nearly a month to submit forms either online at the official TN RTE portal or directly at their chosen private school.Verification of documents and age criteria will also be strictly checked this year. The children applying for LKG should have been born between August 1, 2022, and July 31, 2023, and those applying for Class I should have been born between August 1, 2019, and July 31, 2020. How to apply and necessary documentsParents should provide evidence about the child’s date of birth, address, caste/category, and income proof. The portal will also seek documents for children belonging to specific categories like orphans, children with disabilities, sanitation workers, or children with HIV. Documents will have to be provided between April 22 and May 19 when the process is being verified online. If there are any missing documents, parents will receive an SMS notification and must upload the same before 5 pm on May 19.The draw of lots will be done in schools on May 22, and the final list of admissions will be declared on May 29. Children of special categories are given preference before the draw of lots.
