NEW DELHI: At least two Delhi Police personnel, including a member of the all-women Pink Force, were injured as around 1,000 protesters were detained at various locations across the national capital on Saturday.The detentions came as protesters attempted to march to Jantar Mantar, Delhi’s designated protest site, to demonstrate against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.According to a police officer, the two personnel, Dheeraj Yadav and Suman, were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The officer said the circumstances surrounding their injuries were being ascertained.The personnel were injured near the Kartavya Path police station in central Delhi, close to Jantar Mantar.The Delhi Police imposed extensive security measures to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar after denying permission for the demonstration.

Thousands of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed as part of heightened security arrangements to prevent any breach of law and order.The New Delhi district was divided into 20 zones, with senior officers, including special commissioners, deputy commissioners and additional deputy commissioners of police, overseeing the situation.Police personnel were also deployed along key roads and at entry points to the capital, while drones were used to monitor the movement of protesters.(With PTI inputs)
