CHENNAI: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to refuse certification to the Hindi film Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak, starring Sunny Deol and Ravi Kishan, which is slated for release on Nov 20.The IMA objects to the film’s teaser, released on Oct 19. In it, a father who has lost his daughter says doctors “write commission slips” instead of prescriptions, then asks how long people will tolerate this. The teaser then shows him assaulting doctors and nursing staff members inside a hospital, which the IMA says is presented as a heroic and justified act.In a representation dated Nov 4, IMA national president Dr Anilkumar J Nayak urged the board to deny certification under Section 4(2)(v) read with Section 5B(1) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and the 2026 certification guidelines. The association said the objectionable content is the film’s core theme and cannot be removed by mere excisions. The IMA wants the board to refuse certification to any trailer, teaser or promotional material that shows violence against doctors, nurses or hospital staff, or carries dialogue imputing corruption to doctors as a class. It has sought a screening under Section 7C for IMA representatives, the presence of an IMA-nominated medical expert when the examining committee views the film, and a hearing before any decision is taken. It said if any certificate is recommended, the chairperson should refer the film to a revising committee under Rule 25(1) of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024. It wants every scene showing violence against healthcare workers as justified or heroic deleted, along with the dialogue on corruption. It also wants a prominent disclaimer that the film does not represent the medical profession and that such violence is punishable. The association asked for a written, reasoned decision and priority consideration given the release date. It reserved the right to approach the courts.
