CAT 2025 result soon: What are IIM Mumbai’s minimum cut-offs for MBA admissions?
The Indian Institute of Management Mumbai has released the admission policy for its Master of Business Administration programme for the 2026-28 batch. The institute stated that admissions will be conducted through the Common Admission Test 2025, followed by a multi-stage shortlisting and selection process.MBA at IIM Mumbai is a two-year, full-time, residential postgraduate degree programme open to candidates from all academic disciplines.
Eligibility criteria
According to the policy issued by IIM Mumbai, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent cumulative grade point average. For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Persons with Disabilities categories, the minimum requirement is relaxed to 45%.The bachelor’s degree must involve a minimum of three years of education after completion of higher secondary schooling. Degrees must be awarded by universities or institutions recognised under Indian law or by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.Candidates in the final year of their bachelor’s degree or those awaiting results are eligible to apply. Such candidates must submit a provisional certificate confirming that they have secured the required minimum marks based on available results. If selected, they must complete all degree requirements by June 30, 2026. Submission of final mark sheets and degree certificates is mandatory by December 31, 2026, failing which the provisional admission will be cancelled.
Shortlisting through CAT 2025
IIM Mumbai stated that the first stage of shortlisting will be based on CAT 2025 sectional and overall percentile cut-offs. Only candidates meeting both sectional and overall minimum requirements will be considered for the next stage.Minimum CAT 2025 percentile requirements for shortlisting:
Note: The institute has clarified that actual cut-offs may be higher depending on the number of candidates shortlisted for the Personal Interview stage.
Personal Interview stage
Candidates shortlisted through CAT 2025 will be invited for a Personal Interview. The interview performance will be a scored component in the final selection process. IIM Mumbai noted that meeting minimum cut-offs does not guarantee a Personal Interview call.
Final selection criteria and weightage
Final selection will be based on a composite score calculated using three components: CAT 2025 score, Personal Interview score, and Academic Performance and Work Experience score.Weightage for final composite score:

Academic performance and work experience scoring
Academic performance will be evaluated using marks obtained in Class 10, Class 12 and the bachelor’s degree, each with defined rating scales and multiplication factors. Work experience will be calculated as on December 31, 2025.Work experience of less than 12 months will receive zero score. Experience between 12 and 36 months will be scored using a formula, while experience beyond 36 months will be capped at a maximum score.Applicants from professional qualifications such as Chartered Accountancy, Cost and Management Accounting, Company Secretaryship and Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India will be evaluated based on aggregate marks obtained in qualifying examinations.
Academic discipline classification
IIM Mumbai has categorised bachelor’s degrees into six academic categories, ranging from medicine and professional degrees to engineering, science, commerce, arts and other disciplines. The classification will be used only for evaluation purposes. The final authority to assign an academic category rests with the admissions committee.
Reservation policy
Seat reservation will follow Government of India norms. This includes 27% for Non-Creamy Layer Other Backward Classes, 15% for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes, up to 10% for Economically Weaker Sections, and 5% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.Candidates claiming reservation must meet eligibility criteria and minimum performance levels in CAT 2025 and the Personal Interview.
Institute’s discretion
IIM Mumbai stated that it reserves the right to verify eligibility at any stage of the admission process and to modify the admission policy if required. The institute also noted that fulfilling minimum eligibility conditions does not ensure selection.The admission policy applies to MBA batch of 2026-28 and has been officially issued by IIM Mumbai.
