The Government of India’s National Informatics Centre (NIC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has invited applications for the post of Scientist-B through direct recruitment. A total of 243 vacancies have been announced across Computer Science, Electronics, and emerging domains like Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The recruitment offers an opportunity for engineering graduates to join a premier organisation driving India’s e-Governance and digital transformation initiatives.Established in 1976, NIC has played a major role in building ICT infrastructure and implementing technology-driven governance systems across central, state, and district administrations. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their GATE scores, making this a highly competitive and merit-driven selection process.

NIC recruitment dates and application timeline

As per the official notification (Advt No: NIC/SCB/2026/1), the online application process has already begun and will remain open for a limited period.

Vacancy details and pay scale

NIC has announced vacancies across three major technical streams:

  • Computer Science & IT: 168 posts
  • Electronics & Communication: 25 posts
  • Data Science & AI: 50 posts

The Scientist-B role is a Group-A Gazetted post under the 7th Central Pay Commission, offering a salary in Level 10 (₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500) along with allowances and benefits applicable to central government employees.However, candidates should note that the number of vacancies is tentative and may change depending on organisational requirements.

Eligibility criteria and selection process

Applicants must possess a valid GATE score from one of the following years: 2024, 2025, or 2026. The accepted GATE papers include:

  • Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC)
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA)

Shortlisting for the next stage will be strictly based on GATE performance. Selected candidates will then be called for document verification and personal interaction/interview.
