Only second player ever! Shai Hope scripts history against India with record-breaking ton

West Indies captain Shai Hope created history on Friday by becoming only the second player in the world to score centuries in all three formats of international cricket against India. He achieved the milestone with an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls in the second T20I in Ranchi, helping the West Indies chase down a target of 250 and win by six wickets.Hope’s explosive innings guided his team to victory in just 18.3 overs, with four wickets down. The result also marked the highest successful T20I run chase in West Indies history and the highest successful chase by any team against India in the format.

Shane Watson Shares the Record

Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson is the only other player to have scored at least one century in Tests, ODIs and T20Is against India. Watson achieved the feat during his international career, scoring one hundred in each format. Before his latest knock, Hope had already scored one Test century and five ODI centuries against India. His unbeaten hundred in Ranchi completed the set by giving him his first T20I century against the Indian team.England’s Jos Buttler and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell have also scored centuries against India in Tests and T20Is, but neither has scored a hundred against India in ODIs.

Hope joins elite T20I list

Hope is the second West Indies batter, after Evin Lewis, to score a T20I century against India. Lewis has scored two hundreds against India in the shortest format, making him one of the few players to achieve the feat more than once.Hope’s latest achievement adds to his growing record against India and highlights his ability to perform across formats. His match-winning innings in Ranchi not only secured a historic personal milestone but also helped West Indies level the five-match T20I series at 1-1.
