NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared a video from the SEMICON India 2026 summit on his birthday, captioning the post, “Of birthdays and same-to-yous…”The video captures a brief birthday moment at the opening session of the semiconductor industry conference, where delegates greeted the Prime Minister with applause and wishes of “Happy Birthday” as he took the stage at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi.PM Modi, who turned 76 on Thursday, smiled and acknowledged the greetings with folded hands before thanking the gathering for the wishes.The birthday moment came ahead of his address at the fifth edition of SEMICON India, where he pitched India as a trusted destination for global semiconductor manufacturing and said the country was taking steps to build a complete semiconductor ecosystem.“The world is looking for new and trusted manufacturing destinations; India is steadily preparing itself to meet this need,” Modi said.“India is taking every step needed to become a preferred destination for the semiconductor industry.”He also said chips manufactured in India had started reaching customers in the country and overseas.“Now our chips, coming out of India’s plants, have started reaching customers in the country and the world,” he said.

PM Modi outlines semiconductor push

Modi said India’s semiconductor programme had progressed from policy formulation and project planning to pilot production and commercial manufacturing.He said commercial production had started at new plants in Mohali and Surat and called for further development across the semiconductor value chain, including chip design, equipment, materials, testing and packaging.“You are the pillars of this success of India, you are partners,” Modi told industry leaders attending the conference.
